January 26, 2010

Dear Alburtis Parents/Guardians,

It is with great sadness that I share the news regarding the sudden death of a former Alburtis teacher, Mr. Kevin Bender. After being hospitalized and beginning treatment, he passed away early this morning. He will be missed by everyone.

Today our guidance counselor, Mrs. Veneskey, shared this information with our 3rd, 4th & 5th grade students, who were acquainted with Mr. Bender. Counselors and psychologists were available to assist any of our students or staff who needed support. Students were permitted to call home, if they desired. I would suggest that you assess your child’s need to discuss this tragedy further and offer them support at home. We will continue to supply trained staff members on site for a number of days if any students need further support.

At this time we know nothing of any memorial services, but will post them on our Alburtis Elementary School website as they become available. On the reverse of this letter, you will find suggestions of ways to help your child through this difficult time.

With sorrow,

Dr. Ronald P. Renaldi

Principal, Alburtis Elementary School
