School Story
A Bit of History
Jefferson School was originally constructed in 1914 as the High School, servicing grades seven through twelve. Jefferson was enlarged several times and by the year 1934 it was considered a 'state of the art' high school. It was during the 1950's that the town of Emmaus found a rapid population growth and by 1955 Jefferson High School was no longer large enough to accommodate the needs of the ever-expanding population. The school was transformed into a Junior High School during the 1955-1956 time period. In 1965 a new Junior High School was constructed and Jefferson formally became an Elementary School. As the technology era boomed, the East Penn Board of School Directors decided to refurbish Jefferson Elementary School.

Jefferson Elementary School
Jefferson Elementary School is located in the Borough of Emmaus, a quiet suburb of Allentown with proximity to New York, Philadelphia, the Pocono Mountains and the Jersey Shore. Rebuilt in 1999, Jefferson Elementary School currently houses 280 students in grades Kindergarten through first. There is one building administrator, twelve general education teachers, one guidance councilor, one IST (instructional Support Teacher), one Learning Support teacher, two CLIU #21 Life Skills teachers, and approximately thirty support staff members who make up the Jefferson educational team. Jefferson is one of seven elementary schools in the East Penn School District. The facilities at Jefferson Elementary consist of twenty-three classrooms, including a gymnasium, library, music room, art room with a kiln, and a cafetorium. Each classroom has been fitted with and electronic interactive white board and proxima projector, five student desktop workstations, and two building wide laptop carts for technological exploration.

Jefferson Elementary School has been and continues to be celebrated as a small neighborhood school in which teachers and staff get to know students, parents, and families on a personal level. Parental involvement as well as community involvement is essential to the academic successes seen at Jefferson Elementary. A strong PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) supports the school through a variety of means including volunteerism and fund raising. Community partnerships such as after school academic and social activities and events provide a safe place for students to go, grow, and learn. Jefferson prides itself as a school in which we meet the academic needs of our students in a hands-on manner. Jefferson faculty and students have embraced Project Based Learning as well as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) teaching and learning initiatives.

Our mission at Jefferson Elementary School is to provide:
S- a supportive and safe learning environment
O- opportunities to grow and excel as lifelong learners
A- acceptance and appreciation of others
R- respect and responsibility in school and community
S- success for all!
