President’s Report

-          Discussed with Mrs. Penneybacker about a PTO parent named for each classroom. This parent shall be someone who normally does not attend the meetings, but can be the liaison between the PTO and classroom. The president will prepare a letter to send home with the children.

-          Volunteers sheets went home, we got a great response back for volunteers.

-          There was a small discussion about bringing back PTO dues. This is not an option at this time, therefore no dues.

-          Discussed upcoming Race for Education. There are several volunteers to help. The best idea is to get all volunteers together with the chairperson from last year and organize a meeting.

Minutes Approved

Minutes from October Meeting ~ Motion made to approve, second and all approved.  Minutes were approved.

Principal’s Report

  • Mrs. Scalzo was not able to make the meeting; therefore there was no principal report.

Committee Reports

COMPLETED:

Roller Skating – Collected at the door were 141 tickets. About average from last year, however since the price increase, PTO had to contribute an additional $100. Next year we will revisit the cost for the event.

Jeffy at Pizza Hut night – Success. Made approx. $180. Discussed doing again in April. Also the possibility of having an additional volunteer to handle a shift.

Market day pies – Did not meet our goal this year. We sold less than last year. Prizes are as follows for top sellers: 1st place - $20 card to book store; 2nd place - $15 card to book store and 3rd place (was too close to call), so suggestion to have the 3 names called up and they will try to get cherry out of whipped cream pie without using hands. First one to do will get a $10 gift card to store. We must run this by Mrs. Scalzo first.

UPCOMING:

Service Projects – the following were discussed:

  1. Toy Swap – gently used toys or new. Bring in during conference week. On Wed. the 25th, parents may come to the gym to get some toys for the holidays. Flyer will be sent home.
  2. Food Drive – did not go out because Angel Network had theirs.
  3. Pennies for Pets – currently in process. Waiting for confirmation from Mrs. Scalzo. Still want to use SPICER. Another idea is Wildlife Fund, sponsor an Eagle. Money to be distributed to them, and we get a packet on Eagle. Great idea since our Mascot is an Eagle.
  4. Christmas Trees – decorate with new hats, gloves and scarves.
  5. Cops and Kids Books – Collect gently used or new books and cops will read to underprivileged children. Hold a book drive, possibly the week of Read across America in March. Need to confirm with Mrs. Scalzo.

Book Fair – Tuesday night to set up. On Saturday morning there will be crafts set up for the children and also Geronimo Stilton will be a guest. Smencils will be sold during the book fair.

Script Cards – will be sent out on Monday. A lot of companies filing for Chapter 11. The script card company is keeping in touch daily with our chairperson on any companies that are on the form. If you hear anything about any companies on the form, please contact Denise Althouse.

Spirit Wear – The new Spirit Wear is in. The following items the PTO will be selling:

  1. Magnet - $3
  2. Tie Dyed Socks (green and yellow) colors sold separately  - $5 each
  3. Tie Dyed T-Shirts - $12 (Extended sizes go up to 5X)

Order forms will be sent home. If you need to order Spirit Wear, please contact Denise Althouse.

Eagle Assembly – Next scheduled Eagle Assembly is Thursday December 10th at 2:15 p.m.

Christmas Holiday Shopping – December 12, 2009. Flyers will be sent home two weeks before the event.

Bingo Night/Silent Auction – Kathy Hoffman will be chairperson for Bingo Night.  This event is held February 6, 2010.

Teacher’s Report

  •

Questions about book fair and when it would be set up. The book fair will start on Wednesday November 18th. The reason not set up on Tuesday was due to a scheduling error when coordinated last year.

Treasurer’s Report

Nothing new on the report. The current income/expense sheet handed out at meeting.

New Business

Dr. Stefany Kramer discussed the PAC meeting on redistricting. Voted on option 3, which does not affect Jefferson Elementary School. Jefferson 1st grade are caped. Nothing can be done about it this year, but possibly addressed in the future. Magnet school is being dropped.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.

THERE WILL BE NO DECEMBER PTO MEETING. THE NEXT MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR JANUARY 14TH 2010.
