About Us

Lower Macungie Middle School combines a rigorous academic program with a strong focus on the needs of the adolescent learner. The curriculum includes Core Academic courses in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies; 12-week Exploratory courses in Health and Wellness, Fitness and Computers; and 9-week Related Arts courses in Art, Music, Technology Education and Family Consumer Science. Students may also choose to participate in music electives including grade level Chorus, 6th or 7th/8th grade Band and Orchestra.

Honors courses in the Core Academic courses are offered in grades 7 and 8. Students also have the opportunity to enroll in level I World Languages in grade 8. Small learning communities are established through interdisciplinary teams at each grade level. These teams provide the Core Academic instruction, academic intervention as well as countless opportunities for students to build academic and social skills through team building activities. Student learning needs are supported with the resources of the Instructional Support Teacher, Literacy Coach, Math Coach, Gifted Specialist, the Special Education department and Academic Support Assistants.

There are many co-curricular activities that students can participate in during the school day including National Junior Honor Society, Band, Chorus, Orchestra, PJAS Science Fair, History Day, Chess Club, Drama Club, Math Counts, Challenge 24, Envirothon, Geography Bee, and Spelling Bee. Extra-curricular activities include Student Council, Builders Club, Running Club, Art Club, Painting Club, Global Citizenship Club, Ski & Snowboard Club, Yearbook Club, 6th grade Volleyball Club, Color Guard and Marching Band. 7th and 8th grade students may compete on PIAA Interscholastic Sports teams in Football, Field Hockey, Girls Volleyball, Cross Country, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Wrestling, Boys Volleyball and Softball. The Cheerleading squad is made up of 7th and 8th graders from both middle schools and along with supporting our football team they compete in several competitions each year. The Buzz TV studio provides a daily news program produced by a team of 8th grade technicians and on air personalities. Our vocal and instrumental groups participate in Music in the Parks adjudications and consistently earn ratings of Superior and Excellence. We also host the High Notes Festival annual band adjudication.
