Respect
Our classroom has only one rule - respect. If each member of our classroom community shows respect to each other, the school, and themselves we will have a truly successful TEAM. Afterall, Together Everyone Achieves More!
Friday Folder
Each week the pink Friday Folder will come home. This folder has many purposes. It will hold a calendar that will help the students keep track of important dates and will serve as a record of completed homework. This will also be the method of returning graded assignments. Any assignment that counts toward a student's report card grade will be sent home to be signed (either in its entirety, or in the case of group projects - a rubric).
The folder needs to be signed and returned to school on Monday (or the following school day).
Homework Homework will be assigned every night and may be from any subject. In the fifth grade, homework should take approximately 50 minutes. Homework is meant to be practice of skills taught in class. It is never meant to be frustrational. Please contact me if homework time causes frustration frequently.
Class Management
Team Points As a class the students will earn "points" for demonstrating good TEAM work. When the TEAM reaches 30 points, we will select a reward as a class.
Knock My Socks Off When a student is "caught" going above and beyond, they will get to take a sock off the class clothesline. They will jot a short note about their stellar choice/behavior and place it inside the sock. Occassionally (about once a month), names (well, socks :-) will be selected from the basket and those students will be celebrated with a special lunch in the classroom.
The Penalty Box If there is an occasion that a student makes a choice that is not respectful and does not demonstrate good team work, they will be asked to sign the Penalty Box folder. The first signature often serves as a warning. However, additional visits to the penalty box will result in parent contact and appropriate consequences.
Birthday Celebrations
1. Due to allergies- no unannounced edible treats can be served in the classroom. 2. Birthday celebrations that involve edible treats will occur once every month for each classroom. Your child's teacher will announce date and approve treats to be served. 3. Sweets should be limited please encourage healthy alternatives. 4. If you would like your child’s birthday recognized on their actual birth date, you may send non-food items to be distributed.
