Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to Eyer Middle School’s Visual Arts class! I have many exciting things in the works for this upcoming year. I am excited to be part of the Eyer family.
Your children are very fortunate to be part of a community of educators who value the whole child. Although I am designated as a Visual Arts teacher, teachers across the grade levels incorporate the visual arts, theatre, music and technology into their curriculum.
Making art is a basic human need. We have been producing art since the stone ages. And although art has been viewed as an “extra” it is an intrinsic part of teaching the whole child.
Art is about expression – self – community – the world. The students and I will continue to explore various cultures, nature and materials, with the hope of teaching a lasting love of self and life and the ability to view life through the eyes of an artist - questioner.
Students will be expected to participate daily and adhere to all classroom rules. I encourage all parents to share aspects of their personal culture with our students through planned classroom visits and/or sharing of resources.
I look forward to working with you throughout the coming year. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns and/or ideas. Thank you in advance for giving your child every chance for success. Together we will succeed!
Artfully yours,
Anne Garton
