Classroom Information
First and foremost, we are committed to a zero tolerance attitude about bullying, violence, and incivility. Children are reminded daily on our morning announcements that no one at Macungie School has the right to hurt anyone with words or actions, and if they feel that they are in an unsafe situation, they should report directly to an adult for help.
The East Penn School District has established a student TIPLINE to promote safe and violence-free schools in our district. Students are instructed to call (610) 966-8400 if they believe a student could endanger another person or him/herself in any way. I want to ensure you that we have a safe school, and we intend to keep it that way. All teachers and staff at Macungie are required to wear identification badges at all times while in the building. Visitors also wear badges that they receive upon signing in at the office. If you need to come to the school for any reason, you will need to follow the same procedure. Thanks in advance for your cooperation with this matter.
Homework
Homework should be about 30 minutes a day for a child in third grade. I will do my best to assign work that will fit within that time frame.
ü Math homework will be assigned daily.
ü A spelling packet will be given out every Wednesday and an activity from the packet will be assigned each night.
ü Additional assignments may be given on a less frequent basis in the areas of social studies and science.
ü I may assign take home projects with time frames of 1-2 weeks. I will always provide the children with clear expectations, due dates, and grading rubrics when they are assigned long term projects.
ü Every night, your child should be reading independently: aloud or silently. A minimum of 15 minutes is required.
ü If homework assignments are not completed, your child may have to do incomplete assignments during “Game Day”.
Making Up Missed Work
If your child is absent for any reason, or if he/she takes an instrument lesson, it is the student’s responsibility to make up any missed work. If your child is out of school, please make arrangements to pick up any work in the office or ask a friend who lives nearby to bring home the missed assignments that were worked on that day.
Assignment Books
Our Parent Teacher Child Association provides every student at Macungie Elementary with an assignment book. Please check your child’s homework assignment book on a nightly basis to help ensure that the work is being completed on time. “Homework Alert” forms are sent home when assignments are not completed. This is to be returned the next day with a parent signature and the missed assignment. If a pattern of missed homework occurs, I may ask you to begin signing your child’s assignment book. This could also serve as a way for us to communicate.
Binders
Your child has been asked to provide a binder to assist him or her with organization skills. All materials necessary for school will be organized in their binder. Additionally, the front pocket will be used to send home daily mail on a regular basis. Please assist your child in remembering their binder each day.
