Language Arts:

 Skills Test Study Tips:

Reread the selection from Story Town. Discuss the questions at the end of the story with your child.

Study vocabulary from the current lesson AND review vocabulary from earlier lessons within the current theme. (All cards on ring) Visit the Vocabulary tab of this website for more practice!

Study grammar pages from current lesson in grammar book and Theme packet. Your student knows where to find these!

Spelling is a separate test, but the best way to study is to have your student write the word three times each ("See, Say, Spell"): saying the word out loud and spelling each word out loud while writing. Hearing, seeing, touching---they will learn them!

Example: say and write:

"oxygen," "o," "x," "y," "g," "e," "n."

"oxygen," "o," "x," "y," "g," "e," "n."

"oxygen," "o," "x," "y," "g," "e," "n."

 What is a Theme Test?

A Theme test includes 3 reading passages followed by multiple choice questions and a written question.  It also includes the grammar, spelling, and vocabulary covered in the Theme.  A Theme Test is given after every 5 chapters in their StoryTown Books.

Preparing for a Theme (Unit) Test:

Each Theme is comprised of 5 stories, 5 spelling lists, and 5 vocabulary lists.  We also cover 5 new concepts in grammar.

For a culminating Theme test, I will provide:

1. a list of 30 Spelling Words (See student's Language Arts Folder)

2. A list of 10-15 vocabulary words (in Language Arts Folder)

3. Grammar page numbers that we covered over the Theme.(see below)

What you can do at home:

1. Practice the spelling words from list of 30.

2. Talk about and use the vocabulary words from the list provided.

3.  Go over the Grammar pages and the Theme packet review  grammar lessons.
