Grading Policy for all classes

Quarter grades will be figured by the total points earned/the total points possible policy.  All points are equal in class.

-          Points will come from the following assessments:

  1. Tests
    -          At least one week notice will be given for all tests.
    -          Each test will be worth 100 points.
    -          A test will be given at the conclusion of each chapter.  So, on average, 2-3 tests will be given a marking period.
    -          Tests will makeup about 200 points of the marking period points.
    -          Makeup (Pod 7 Rule):  If you are absent on the day of the test, you must make up the test on the day that you return.  If you are absent on the day of review, you have one day to make up the test.
  2. Projects
    -          There will be at least one major project a marking period.
    -          Projects will make up at least 100 points of the marking period points.
    -          The amount of points for projects depends upon the amount of time needed to be put into the project.
    -          All projects will be graded with a rubric.
    -          For group projects, students will be graded on their contributions to the group.
    -          Late Projects:  There will be 10 points deducted for each day late after the due date.  If absent the day the project is due, the project is due the first day back.
  3. Quizzes
    -          There will be at least one announced quiz per chapter.
    -           These will be worth 100 points of the marking period total points.
    -          There may be pop quizzes, if the assigned readings or homework is not being completed.
  4. Class Assignments
    -          These assignments are assignments that will be completed during class.  More times is granted to complete for homework if necessary.
    -          Late Assignments:  If not finished during class time, students will be given time to complete the assignments for homework or during 9th periods.  If the assignments are not handed in on time, they may be handed in late for half credit with a parent or guardian's signature.  Some points are better than no points!!!
  5. Homework
    -          It will be graded and checked for completeness and neatness.  Homework is minimal and given to review material presented in class.  It is used to give students a chance to discover any misunderstandings and then ask questions during the following class period.  It is not graded for correctness, unless specified.
    -          Each homework assignment is typically worth 6 points each, which will account for 100 points of the marking period total points.
    -          Missing Homework:  Half credit will be given for late homework assignments with a parent's signature that is turned the next day.  Students will receive one point for late assignments turned after that point.

    Class Participation/Preparation
    -          MY GIFT TO YOU:  Each student gets 50 class participation/preparation points at the beginning of each marking period.
    -          These points are there to help you academically as long as you are showing effort.
    -          Loss of 5 class participation points for each offense of the following:  not paying attention in class, sleeping, not returning signed progress reports, or not being prepared for class with proper materials.
    -          There will be random checks during each marking period for students being present with their textbooks, a writing instrument, and a notebook.
    -          Progress reports that are returned late, will receive the reduction of 5 points.
    -          No more than 50 points will be deducted from the total points earned in a marking period.
