Scott Westerfeld was born in Texas on May 5 1963. He graduated from Arts Magnet High School in Dallas, Texas. He was a very clever person and he got a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at Vassar (located in Poughkeepsie, New York) in 1985. His other jobs include ghost writer, textbook editor, substitute teacher, factory worker and software designer. His job as a ghost writer led him to be a author full time. Scott Westerfeld is married to an australian author.

Scott Westerfeld writes science fiction. He says quote  "That science fiction is way of writing which utilizes the power of exploritation." The ideas for his books come his imagination of the world, also the passion from the songs he wrote helps him find ideas. Scott Westerfelds inspiration come from the different aspects of New York City.
