In preparing for a computer refresh, there are a few tasks to perform to ensure you don’t loose files or data during your computer upgrade.
Step 1: Verifying your File Locations
Make sure all your files are stored on your H drive (home directory) and not on your local computer, like the desktop or a folder on your C: drive such as “My Documents”. If you find files on your desktop or inside one of your folders, move them to your H drive before your computer is refreshed. If you are not familiar with how to move files, click the icon below to see the instructions for Windows 7, Windows XP and Macintosh operating systems.
Step 2: Exporting and Importing Favorites to your H: Drive
Make sure you export your Internet favorites / bookmarks from the browsers you commonly use. If you are not familiar with how to export your bookmarks, click the icon below to see the instructions for each browser you routinely use. The instructions also include information on how to import the bookmarks back to your local drive if you choose to do so.
Step 3: Identify any Special Software
All East Penn School District computers come with some standardized software installations such as Office, SMART Notebook, Adobe, Flash, JAVA, multiple browsers, etc. The Office of Technology however does need to be notified if we have previously purchased and installed unique software for you, as an individual, or your department, such as special subject or content related software, digital textbooks, additional Adobe products, etc.
For any questions or concerns regarding special software installations, please email for clarification.
