EHS SADD was one of the Lehigh Valley schools to attend Day At The Capitol at the Pennsylvania State Capitol on May 7th. The one-day event is held in Harrisburg for individuals to come together and meet with legislators to provide education on important tobacco control issues throughout the Commonwealth. Advocates and youth educate legislators on supporting necessary tobacco cessation and prevention programs and services, as well as the importance of increasing the minimum sales age for tobacco products to 21 to eliminate or reduce youth tobacco initiation. SADD members also expressed their concerns regarding an absent age of use in Pennsylvania. Students were afforded this opportunity through The Tobacco Resistance Unit (TRU), a Pennsylvania statewide youth movement for students 12-18, committed to decreasing tobacco through advocacy and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle. Thanks to The American Lung Association and Valley Youth House, students were provided a chartered bus, as well as meals at no cost. It is wonderful to be able to provide student with such opportunities through these gracious organizations’ support.
