Dear Parents and Guardians,
I write today to provide you with an update on the flood restoration efforts here at Emmaus High School.
When we reopened school on November 12th, we had 15 classrooms plus the auxiliary gym, weight room, and wrestling room that were under construction and unavailable for student use. An additional 35 rooms had some work left to completed but were deemed usable as instructional spaces. Since then, RestoreCore has been working in all of these spaces to restore them to pre-flood conditions. Below is an update on their progress:
Auxiliary Gym, Weight Room, and Wrestling Room
A new floor is being installed in the auxiliary gym. We expect this space to be returned to regular use when we return from winter break, if not before.
The weight room equipment has been moved into the wrestling room and is being used by athletic teams on a limited basis. Wrestling mats have been temporarily installed in the weight room to allow our school and community wrestling programs to practice. These rooms will be outfitted and returned to their normal uses after winter sports season is finished.
Rooms 504,506,508, and 510 (directly across from the main office)
These rooms were ready for use on Monday, December 3rd. They will be used from now through December 13th for Keystone testing. We expect that normal classes will resume in these classrooms on December 17th. Some minor repairs may still need to be completed after this date, but will happen during non-school hours.
Lower 300’s (adjacent to the main office)
These rooms were the hardest-hit and required significant deconstruction before repairs could take place. We expect these rooms be ready for student and teacher use when we return from winter break.
Reconstruction is underway, but a great deal of work including cabinetry and carpeting remains to be done. We do not have an estimated date of completion yet, but this will be the last area that is returned to normal use. We will notify you when our main office has resumed normal operations. Until then, our visitor entrance and student attendance office will remain located in the auditorium lobby area.
Throughout the past few weeks, our students have shown tremendous kindness and patience while navigating an adjusted floorplan and other associated inconveniences. On behalf of the entire faculty, staff, and administration here at EHS, I’d like to thank you and your children for your flexibility, generosity, and understanding. If you have any questions about how any aspect of the flood restoration efforts will impact your child, please call our main office.
