Late Bus

  • The late bus will run every Tuesday and Thursday. The bus picks up around 3:15pm at door #4. You may only use the late bus for clubs or detention. You must sign up in the main office on the day of the late bus by 10:30am.

Library

  • There is NO EATING in the Library
  • All students coming to the Library must have an Ehall pass to EHS Library or a yellow paper pass.
  • Reminder – students are only allowed to come down during one study hall block per day, students will be sent back if trying to come into the Library during multiple study hall blocks in the same day.
  • This is a reminder that–on M, T, W and F–students may only be in the library during Hornet Homeroom for quick in-and-out visits (claiming an ID, printing a document, or book renewal/return, for examples). HR teacher passes are fine for such purposes. Staying longer requires a pass from a subject teacher and subject work necessitating library support/resources.
  • No students should be visiting during HH on Thursdays.
  • The library houses three permanent HHs every day and often gets a fourth due to coverage needs. We simply do not have the HH space to accommodate students just hoping to “hang out.”
  • The EHS Library area to the immediate right after entering will be a designated quiet-only spot for students, staff members and teachers. Stress-relieving activities such as adult coloring, sticker books, sudoku, etc. remain available; however, in response to patron feedback, gaming items have been removed to allow for booked classes to operate without noise distraction. Additionally, ehall pass requires that our AA be able to hear students as they identify themselves upon arrival and exit.

Study hall students who wish to socialize should sit elsewhere in the library.

  • Per Mrs. Guarriello, the EHS Library will no longer be available to students after school on Mondays due to faculty meetings being held in the space. The EHS Library continues to be open until 3 PM on Tuesdays through Fridays.

Chromebook / IT Help

The IT department  will hold  Chromebook support for students  during Hornet Homeroom (10:18 – 10:55) and from 2 to 2:30 pm outside the library entrance.

Lehigh University

Current 10th and 11th Grade Students- Please see the opportunity below!

Lehigh University’s Summer Engineering Institute (SEI) is a program that offers students exposure to STEM activities such as hands-on collaborative projects, classroom discussions, and field trips to regional science and tech businesses and research centers. Some of the topics explored during the program include 3D printing, robotics, nanoscience, earthquake mitigation, bioengineering, environmental remediation, and computer science.

The in-person program gives students the opportunity to reside for two weeks on Lehigh’s campus working with Lehigh students and faculty.  The virtual program runs Monday through Friday for two weeks and consists of zoom sessions three times daily, 10 am – noon, 2 pm – 4 pm, and 6 pm – 7 pm.  Nominated students should be capable of participating in this two-week program both academically and socially.  Students who apply should be highly interested in engineering and have a higher GPA (ideally 3.5 or above).  Lehigh would also like to see that students who apply are of traditionally underrepresented groups and/or first generation college students (however, this criteria is not mandatory).  If you would like to be considered for this opportunity, please fill out the Interest Form by Friday, March 24th.

SESSION 1: June 25-July 8, 2023 (in-person)

SESSION 2: July 10-21, 2023 (virtual)

See SEI FLYER or lehigh.edu/sei for additional information.

Phillips Armstrong

Early in life, Phillips Armstrong’s mother instilled in him the importance of a hard work ethic and a dedication to making a difference in the community. These life lessons motivated Phil to choose a path improving the lives of others.

Phil found his first passion for public service in education.  He graduated from Kutztown in 1971 with B.S in Secondary Education and a minor in social studies and obtained his Master’s in Education in 1975.  He finally settled in Whitehall Township where he taught social studies for over 40 years.

Phil brought creativity and innovation to the classroom, ensuring his students were always provided with real-world experiences, cutting-edge lessons and learned critical skills.  His students continue to express their gratitude to him to this day.

Armstrong also served as the girls’ basketball coach where he fought to ensure the school provided equal access to equipment and training facilities.  He is in the Lehigh Valley Sports Hall of Fame and the Whitehall High School Hall of Fame.

Armstrong’s quality in the classroom translated into praise and respect from his peers.  His time in the Whitehall School District saw him rise to be head of the Social Studies Department.  He was also selected to serve as the Secondary Education Chairperson for the Middle States Council on Social Studies, where he worked to develop a standardized exam for Social Studies.

Phil’s retirement from education led him into his next venture into public service when he was appointed to the Whitehall Board of Commissioners.  He moved quickly to bring civility and common sense to the board and was selected by his peers to be board president.

His leadership produced a reduction in the garbage tax, and held the line in all other forms of taxation in Whitehall.  The township has a capital replacement plan for its emergency services, a fully funded police pension system and is in the process of paying off all of its debt.

Armstrong remains an active member of his community.  He serves on the Board of Directors for the Whitehall Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Whitehall Lion’s Club. Currently, he serves on both the Counsel of Trustees for Kutztown University and the Board of Trustees for Penn State.

In February, 2021, Phil was elected to the National Association of Regional Councils Board of Directors. He represents all the councils of governments, development agencies, regional and metropolitan organizations in the state of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Delaware. This is the first time a Lehigh Valley elected official represented four states and over 27 million people living in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
