{"id":566,"date":"2014-08-15T13:10:31","date_gmt":"2014-08-15T17:10:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/new.eastpennsd.org\/ehs\/?page_id=39"},"modified":"2026-01-16T14:59:41","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T19:59:41","slug":"attendance","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.eastpennsd.org\/ehs\/about-us\/attendance\/","title":{"rendered":"Attendance"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\"><b>Attendance Guidelines and Procedures<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Attendance Procedures:<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At the beginning of each class period, the teacher will take attendance for all students in PowerSchool and will use the following codes:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>PRE or BLANK<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &#8211; The student is physically present in class. It is the default in PowerSchool. This means that if there is no entry listed in the system, the student was physically present in class.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>UXP<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &#8211; The student was absent from class.&nbsp; If this code appears, the student was marked absent from class by the teacher.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Absence Procedures:<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>All Students:<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When students are physically absent from school <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">they will be marked absent by their teacher (UXP). Students who are absent from more than two blocks in a day will be considered absent from school.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When a student is absent from school for legitimate reasons, they must have a parent\/guardian complete an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastpennsd.org\/ehs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/EHS-Excuse-Blanks-2017-18-FOR-WEBSITE.pdf\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.eastpennsd.org\/ehs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/EHS-Excuse-Blanks-2017-18-FOR-WEBSITE.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">EHS Excuse Blank<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and submit it to the Main Office or their grade level assistant principal\u2019s office upon return\/arrival.\u00a0<\/span>  SAFE ARRIVAL is a quick and easy way to text absences to the school.  Please refer to the Safe Arrival information on the district website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students or parents may also scan or take a photo with a smartphone of the EHS Excuse Blank and email it to <\/span><a href=\"mailto:EHSAttendance@eastpennsd.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">EHSAttendance@eastpennsd.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> within three (3) school days of said absence. Failure to return an excuse blank will be handled as per district policy and applicable state law regarding unexcused absences.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Legitimate reasons for absences include:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Personal illness<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Death or serious illness in the family&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Observance of religious holidays of the student\u2019s own faith&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Educational activities pre-approved by the district and\/or building administration (to be completed on a College Visit\/Trip Request Form) &#8211; links are provided below:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastpennsd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Vacation-Request-Form-2022-fill.pdf\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.eastpennsd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Vacation-Request-Form-2022-fill.pdf\">Vacation\/Extended Absence Request Form<\/a><br><em>(also used for college visits)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastpennsd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Vacation-request-SPanish.pdf\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.eastpennsd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Vacation-request-SPanish.pdf\">Vacation\/Extended Absence Request Form (Spanish)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Special circumstances such as a court summons, doctors\u2019 appointments, or other emergencies that the school principal deems appropriate<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Once a valid excuse has been received, the attendance code will be changed by our office staff from UXP to EX (excused).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students who are absent or late for twenty (20) days or more, regardless of the reason, must bring in a Physician\u2019s note for each additional day or period of absence. Parents and students will be notified by certified mail after the 20th occurrence.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Any student who misses 10 consecutive days of school may be automatically withdrawn from school per a high school administrator. This includes students who will be going on trips for more than 10 school days. In such cases, students may be dis-enrolled and parents required to re-enroll the student upon their return from the trip. Please refer to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/eastpennsd.org\/emmaushighschoolparentstudenth\/discipline-code\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/eastpennsd.org\/emmaushighschoolparentstudenth\/discipline-code\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Emmaus High School Discipline Code<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for information on penalties for unexcused absences.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b><i>Please note that mandatory school age in PA is through age 18 or the student\u2019s graduation from high school<\/i><\/b><b>.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Tardy to School Procedures<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students arriving late to school at any time during the day will enter the building at the Main Office entrance. Students will sign in and be provided a pass to their designated class.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When a student is late to school for legitimate reasons they must have a signed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastpennsd.org\/ehs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/EHS-Excuse-Blanks-2017-18-FOR-WEBSITE.pdf\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.eastpennsd.org\/ehs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/EHS-Excuse-Blanks-2017-18-FOR-WEBSITE.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">EHS Excuse Blank<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or a SAFE ARRIVAL text<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> from a parent\/guardian and submit it upon arrival following the same protocol for absences. Failure to return an excuse will be handled per the student discipline code regarding unexcused\/illegal absences.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Legitimate reasons for tardiness include:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tardiness due to late transportation provided by the school or other school related actions which will be considered excused and not recorded against the pupil\u2019s tardy record&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Medical appointments with doctors, dentists, or other medical staff, if accompanied by a note on medical office letterhead stationery&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Illness of the pupil, if accompanied by a valid parental excuse blank.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Special circumstances such as a court summons or other emergencies that the school principal deems appropriate.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A student will be considered tardy if reporting to school anytime after 7:23 a.m. Refer to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/eastpennsd.org\/emmaushighschoolparentstudenth\/discipline-code\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/eastpennsd.org\/emmaushighschoolparentstudenth\/discipline-code\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Emmaus High School Discipline Code<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for more information on penalties for lateness.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Attendance Guidelines and Procedures Attendance Procedures: At the beginning of each class period, the teacher will take attendance for all students in PowerSchool and will use the following codes: Absence Procedures: All Students: When students are physically absent from school they will be marked absent by their teacher (UXP).
