{"id":6086,"date":"2018-07-19T13:09:32","date_gmt":"2018-07-19T17:09:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eastpennsd.org\/ehs\/?page_id=6086"},"modified":"2023-01-05T10:55:01","modified_gmt":"2023-01-05T15:55:01","slug":"grading","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.eastpennsd.org\/ehs\/academics\/grading\/","title":{"rendered":"Grading"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Grade Point Average<\/h2>\n<p>The Grade Point Average (GPA) is a system for calculating a student\u2019s scholastic average on a 0 to 4+ scale.<\/p>\n<p>Wellness\/Fitness, courses that are taken pass\/fail, and courses that are taken as an independent study are not used in calculating the GPA.<\/p>\n<p>The GPA calculation is based on final grades earned in each course. \u00a0Final grades are awarded based on quarter and semester exam grades. \u00a0GPA is calculated and reported once annually and additionally, at the end of a student\u2019s seventh semester. \u00a0These calculations are performed in the following manner:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A mark is assigned a numerical value called the Quality Point (QP). The Quality Point values for course marks are:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"2\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"75\"><strong>Grade<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"151\"><strong>AP Courses<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"148\"><strong>Honors Courses<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"152\"><strong>Others<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"75\">90-100<\/td>\n<td width=\"151\">5 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"148\">4.5 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"152\">4 QP<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"75\">80-89<\/td>\n<td width=\"151\">4 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"148\">3.5 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"152\">3 QP<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"75\">70-79<\/td>\n<td width=\"151\">3 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"148\">2.5 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"152\">2 QP<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"75\">60-69<\/td>\n<td width=\"151\">2 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"148\">1.5 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"152\">1 QP<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"75\">0-59<\/td>\n<td width=\"151\">0 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"148\">0 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"152\">0 QP<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>M, N, P, WP and WF are not used in calculating GPA.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Each course has an assigned credit value. \u00a0A course\u2019s credit value is based on the number of meeting times per cycle and the length of the course.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The course value for each quarter is multiplied times the Quality Point Value of the grade earned.<\/li>\n<li>The GPA is determined by dividing the total Quality Points for all courses by the total attempted course credits attempted for all courses. \u00a0Note: This calculation is reported once annually and additionally, at the end of a student\u2019s seventh semester.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The official cumulative GPA is reported at the end of each academic year. The GPA calculated at the end of a student&#8217;s eleventh grade year will be reported as part of the college application process.<\/p>\n<p>A cumulative GPA, which includes all completed coursework through the end of a student&#8217;s seventh semester, will be calculated and provided to colleges that require a mid year report from applicants.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastpennsd.org\/ehs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/Calculating-the-Final-Grade-and-the-GPA-2017-2018.pdf\">For more information on how to calculate your final Grade Point Average, please click\u00a0HERE.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Grading System<\/h2>\n<p>The quarter, semester and year grade will be a numerical grade. \u00a0Courses that are approved Pass\/Fail courses will be assigned a grade of \u201cP\u201d or \u201cF\u201d. \u00a0Work which is incomplete at the end of the fourth quarter will be assigned a zero and be averaged with other grades that quarter except in approved special circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>The grading system used is as follows:<\/p>\n<h4>Percentage Range<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>A = 90- 100 %<\/li>\n<li>B = 80- 89%<\/li>\n<li>C = 70- 79%<\/li>\n<li>D = 60- 69%<\/li>\n<li>F = 0- 59%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Status<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>I<\/strong> &#8211; Incomplete<\/li>\n<li><strong>P<\/strong> &#8211; Passing, pass\/fail course<\/li>\n<li><strong>F<\/strong> &#8211; Failing, pass\/fail course<\/li>\n<li><strong>W<\/strong> &#8211; Withdraw<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>PLEASE NOTE:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The final average for each course will be computed by averaging the numerical grades for each quarter with both semester examination grades. The combined semester exam grades will always count as 20% of the final course grade.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Report Cards are issued four times during the school term. The dates are listed on the district calendar. LCTI issues report cards four times during the year for the courses studied there.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastpennsd.org\/ehs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/Grade-Scale-and-GPA-Change-FAQ.pdf\">For information regarding the 2017-2018 changes to the Grading Scale, please click\u00a0HERE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Honor Roll<\/h2>\n<p>The Principal\u2019s Honor List contains the names of students having a <b>4.000<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Quarterly Point Average (QPA) or greater and no grade lower than a C in all courses that are entered into the calculation of the QPA. \u00a0The Quarterly Point Average is calculated as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A mark is assigned a numerical value called the Quality Point (QP). The Quality Point values for course marks are:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"2\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"75\"><strong>Grade<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"151\"><strong>AP Courses<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"148\"><strong>Honors Courses<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"152\"><strong>Others<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"75\">90-100<\/td>\n<td width=\"151\">5 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"148\">4.5 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"152\">4 QP<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"75\">80-89<\/td>\n<td width=\"151\">4 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"148\">3.5 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"152\">3 QP<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"75\">70-79<\/td>\n<td width=\"151\">3 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"148\">2.5 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"152\">2 QP<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"75\">60-69<\/td>\n<td width=\"151\">2 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"148\">1.5 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"152\">1 QP<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"75\">0-59<\/td>\n<td width=\"151\">0 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"148\">0 QP<\/td>\n<td width=\"152\">0 QP<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>M, N, P, WP and WF are not used in calculating GPA.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Each course has an assigned credit value. \u00a0A course\u2019s credit value is based on the number of meeting times per cycle and the length of the course. \u00a0This credit value is then divided by the number of marking periods the course meets to determine the credit value per marking period.<\/li>\n<li>The marking period credit value for each quarter is multiplied times the Quality Point Value of the grade earned in the marking period.<\/li>\n<li>The QPA is determined by dividing the total Quality Points for the marking period for all courses by the total attempted course credits attempted in the marking period for all courses. \u00a0Note: This calculation does not include Wellness\/Fitness and\/or Pass\/Fail courses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Honor Roll contains the names of students having a Quarterly Point Average (QPA) from <b>3.25<\/b> to <b>3.999<\/b> and no grade lower than a C in all courses that are entered into the calculation of the QPA.<\/p>\n<p>A student who received a <b>WP<\/b> or <b>WF<\/b>, or a failing mark in any course is not eligible for either the Principal\u2019s Honor List or the Honor Roll.<\/p>\n<p>A student who believes that an error exists in either the Principal\u2019s Honor List or the Honor Roll should immediately report the discrepancy to his\/her counselor.<\/p>\n<h3>Honor Graduates<\/h3>\n<p>Students with a cumulative GPA of <b>3.800<\/b> at the conclusion of the second quarter of the senior year will be considered Honor Graduates. (No rounding up of GPA will be considered, i.e. student with a <b>3.799<\/b> will not be listed as an Honor Graduate.)<br \/>A final cumulative GPA will be calculated after the final exam.
