Dear Jefferson Families,
Students will participate in a discussion-based safety drill on Wednesday, November 28th. Emphasis will be placed on actions to take during an event that may require the building to be locked down, dependent upon factors such as location, proximity to danger, exits, and information that may be provided to students and staff through our public address system.
The training our staff received from local law enforcement has been modified appropriately to consider the developmental needs and chronological age of students. Our staff will ensure that this drill is calm and instructional in nature, and students will have an opportunity to ask any questions they may have. At the conclusion of the drill, we will seek teacher and student feedback so we can continue to refine our district’s crisis response procedures.
Over the next few days, you may want to take a few minutes to discuss with your child the necessity of being aware of surroundings, reporting suspicious persons or situations, and listening attentively to staff members during an emergency.
Should you have any questions, please contact Mr. Hinkel at 610.965.1645. Thank you for your continued partnership in providing a safe and welcoming educational environment at Jefferson Elementary School and throughout the East Penn School District.
