Spelling bee. S-p-e-l-l-i-n-g b-e-e. Spelling bee. Most LMMS students were required to take a spelling pretest, to determine the competitors in our school contest. Some of the most commonly misspelled words on the test were mozzarella, diesel, hippopotamus, and kielbasa. Those who were able to overcome these tough words took part in the competition on January 23, judged by Mr. Cari and Mrs Krause. Your LMMS winners were Claire Engel in 1st, Sam Conway in 2nd, and Kayla Stellabotte in 3rd. The champion, Claire Engel, will take a written test in late February to determine if she will move on to the regional competition at Northampton County Community College. Regionals will take place in March, and Nationals will occur in May. The champion of Nationals will be awarded $30,000, along with other prizes found at www.spellingbee.com/prizes. To watch the National Competition in Washington, D.C., tune in to ESPN 3 during May 27-29. The Championship will be broadcasted on the 29th at 8:00 P.M.
