We hope that this page will answer a few of your questions as you prepare to transition from elementary school to LMMS. If you have a question that is not answered here, please click on the link below and submit your question to the team. We will work hard on answering your questions and updating this page regularly!
What time does school start? What time does school end?
Middle school start time is 7:40 AM and dismissal is 2:25 PM. The doors by the gym/auditorium entrance open at 7:15 AM for breakfast and parent drop-off.
Will I be able to get my locker open?
Yes! You will be able to get in and out of your locker very easily after the first few weeks of school. Teachers work hard with all students to learn and memorize their locker combination, and there will be lots of opportunities to practice the lock throughout your day. Teachers are always standing by to support you with your lockers in the morning and in-between classes. You do not need to provide your own lock since the locks are already attached to each locker.
Will I get lost in such a big school?
The 6th grade core courses are all located on the first floor in one main hallway. Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Reading classrooms will all be within a few feet of one another. Your exploratory classes are mainly down another wing of the hallway but almost all are located on the first floor. The only exploratory classes that you may have on another floor might be Business/Computers or Health.
What clubs and activities are available at LMMS?
LMMS offers a number of after-school clubs. Clubs run on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30-4:00pm. Students can sign-up for the late bus in the morning, and transportation will be provided.
A list of clubs, sports, and activities can be found on our LMMS website.
LMMS offers a number of sports for 7th and 8th graders. Due to PIAA rules, sixth-grade students cannot participate in middle school sports. There are, however, after-school clubs for specific sports that are offered at certain times during the year.
How will I get home from after-school clubs and activities?
We offer late busses on Tuesdays and Thursdays for after-school clubs. On those days, you will sign up for the late bus which leaves LMMS at approximately 4:00 PM. Parents and guardians are also able to pick students up from after-school clubs and activities.
Is there recess after or before lunch?
There is not recess before or after lunch. However, on days we have nice weather, students have the opportunity to go outside with cafeteria staff after they are finished eating. Occasionally, there are opportunities to attend other inside activities on days the weather is not as nice.
I heard from my other middle school friends that they get all of their work done during 9th period…What is 9th period?
Ninth period occurs everyday at the end of the day for 41 minutes. It is a time when students signed up for band, chorus, or orchestrat attend their course. For those students not involved in any of those classes, it is a time to receive extra help, complete assignments, study, or visit the media center for research. Occasionally, teams will structure other educational activities during that time.
Do you have fun days like spirit days or meetings?
Once a month, there are dress up days sponsored by the Success Team where you are encouraged to wear a shirt or outfit to show your school spirit. There is a School Spirit week where you can win prizes and participate in fun events. 3 times per year we have pep rallies, where students are encouraged to wear their team gear, cheer on their fellow students, and participate in activities held in the gym. Occasionally there are “activity nights” held after school where students can enjoy a DJ, activities in the gym, or organized games in the hallway.
Who will my guidance counselor be?
Mrs. Lisa Shirvinski will be the sixth-grade guidance counselor. She will also follow students as they progress through all grade levels at LMMS. You can reach her at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions prior to the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
How can I put money in my child’s lunch account?
Parents can load money onto their child’s account using the SchoolCafe system. To access more information related to food services, click here to check out their website.
Guidelines and applications for Free/Reduced lunch can be accessed here.
What does the bell schedule look like at LMMS?
Please click here to see the LMMS 6th Grade Bell Schedule
When will I get my schedule?
Schedules will be handed out at our orientation in August (Date/Time TBD). Schedues will also be available online in PowerSchool in August.
How will transportation work?
Bus information: All students should receive Bus #’s and pick-up/drop-off times, prior to the start of the school year. Please help your child memorize their bus number.
What if I want to drive my child to school?
Parents may drop their child off, in front of the school by the gym/auditorium entrance between 7:15 and 7:35 AM. Please give yourself enough time, and be patient, as sometimes a long line forms. Please stay in single file, throughout the pick-up and drop-off line. If you need to come into the building, or take longer than a quick drop-off/pick-up, please park in the parking lot.
Pick-up of students begins at 2:25 PM. Pick-up is also located in front of the gym/auditorium entrance. Please use extra caution driving through the parking lots at pick-up, as we have many students who will be dismissing at this time and may be crossing in parking lot areas.
With everything going on will the upcoming 6th graders get to visit the school and have an orientation before the school starts in the fall?
Of course, our goal is to get our incoming 6th grade students into school for an orientation prior to the start of the school year and help get them acclimated to LMMS. Until Governor Wolf lifts the stay-at-home orders and we slowly move out of the red zone, we will not have any updates until that time.
