Hello Elementary Families,
We hope this new communication finds you safe and well. As you know, Governor Wolf last week ordered all school buildings to remain closed for the remainder of the school year in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. We are sure that this news was met by our students with varying degrees of disappointment, sadness, and anxiety. There are many events that our students and staff look forward to each year that have been canceled, and our daily lives are limited in ways that a few months ago, we would have considered unimaginable. Here in East Penn, we have been actively planning for the possibility that school buildings would remain closed, and we feel continuing with our elementary Continuity of Learning Plan is best for our students given the circumstances. This plan will continue until the last day of school for students which is now Thursday, June 11th. Our goal in all of this is to help our students continue with sequential, meaningful instruction in a way that is as equitable as possible and responsive to the needs of our students and their families.
Thanks to the active support of our Information Technology and Teaching & Learning Departments, we have been providing ongoing, new instruction to students in all of their classes since Monday, April 6th. Student participation is being monitored weekly. If your family is experiencing a hardship that prevents your child from completing their online schoolwork, please contact your school counselor.
New learning activities will continue to be provided by your child’s teachers on Monday of each week in an on-demand, asynchronous format. This means that students are not required to log in at specific times of day to receive instruction, but can complete the learning activities at their own pace at a time that is most convenient for them and your family’s circumstances.
For the last trimester, no report card will be issued. Student engagement will be monitored by the teacher and specific feedback and intervention will be provided to students, as needed. With iReady, we are able to monitor student progress and plan to assess students at the end of the year so that information can be shared with next year’s teacher, in the next grade, and needed instruction will take place to cover any missed concepts.
Please continue to visit our East Penn School District COVID-19 Resource Page for district-wide information that you may find useful. Help from our technology staff is available by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Finally, don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of our faculty or staff if you have questions or need assistance. Our building may be closed, but our school is open and we are here to support you! Thank you for your patience, support, and kindness as we work our way through this challenging time.
