Dear Shoemaker Families,
Faculty members on our Shoemaker Safety Team met for our monthly meeting this week, and we would like to share some important safety information with you.
- Dismissal Changes: It is very important that a note is sent in with students no later than the morning of a change in dismissal. Receiving phone calls during the day, especially last minute phone calls, causes dismissal delays and confusion at times. Please only resort to doing so in emergency situations. This procedure is also necessary on Mustang Meeting days. If you plan to pick up your child after a Mustang Meeting and this is not his/her regular dismissal procedure, a note must come to school on the morning of the meeting day.
- Crosswalk: Please do not use the stairs from the upper parking lot to the bus area during arrival and dismissal times. It is extremely dangerous because busses are pulling into and out of this area very quickly. If you park in the upper parking lot, please cross at the corner that is directly across from the sidewalk in the front of the building.
- Dogs on school property: Even though there are many dog lovers at Shoemaker Elementary School, we have some safety concerns about dogs on school property during parent pick-up time and at outdoor Shoemaker School events. Unfortunately, we have recently witnessed a dog almost getting hit by a school bus, and a student running out of line to pet a dog. We also have many students who are frightened of dogs. Therefore, we would like to kindly ask that dogs no longer accompany you during the times listed above.
- Halloween Parade: Our Halloween Parade (10/26 at 2PM) will begin at the lower gym doors (the door next to the kindergarten playground) this year. Students will parade in the reverse direction as in previous years. From the lower level gym doors, they will parade in front of the school and then around to the side where the busses park. They will re-enter the building on that side, through the door # 16. We will no longer gather on the playground macadam at the end of the parade.
If you have any questions or comments, please reach out to me via e-mail or phone.
Thank you so much for your understanding and partnership in all that we do.
