2018-19 Voluntary Student Accident Insurance Program
The Board of Directors of East Penn School District has approved a voluntarily student accident insurance plan as provided by the Zurich American Insurance Company.
In approving this plan, the School Board is providing an opportunity for parents to acquire student accident insurance. The School District is not selling insurance. The insurance policy is between the parent and Zurich American Insurance Company administered by Bollinger Specialty Group.
Under the Student Accident Program, parents may select from two (2) insurance options:
- SCHOOL-TIME ACCIDENT COVERAGE $30.00
- FULL-TIME 24-HOUR STUDENT COVERAGE $113.00
The SCHOOL-TIME ACCIDENT COVERAGE provides accidental injury insurance at a cost of $30.00 per student. The effective period of coverage for this plan commences when the application and premium amount are received by the insurance company, but no earlier than the first day of the school year, and expires at midnight on the last day of the school year. Insurance is provided for the hours and days when school is in session and while attending or participating in school sponsored and supervised activities including direct travel to and from school.
The FULL-TIME 24-HOUR ACCIDENT COVERAGE provides accidental injury insurance at a cost of $113.00. This plan provides insurance coverage twenty-four (24) hours per day. Insurance provisions are in force on school days, weekends, vacation periods, and the summer months when school is not in session. Coverage for the current year commences when the application and premium amount are received by the insurance company, but no earlier than the first day of the school year, and expires at midnight on the opening day of the 2018-2019 school term.
A complete description of the voluntary school sponsored student accident insurance plan is available on the Bollinger Specialty Group Website, www.BollingerSchools.com. Click on the “Parents” tab, enter the requested information and you can view/print a complete description of the coverage. When prompted for the District Name enter “East Penn School District.” Coverage can be purchases online or an application can be printed, completed and mailed with the premium payment.
Please note that this is a $100 Excess Plan. Under this plan, meaning the first $100 of covered charges is paid without regard to any other applicable coverage that may be in effect. After the first $100 in covered charges are paid, benefits are then paid on an excess basis (i.e., coverage is provided only for those covered medical expenses that are not covered by other applicable insurance plans).
Separate from the above voluntary student accident program, the District has purchased an accident insurance policy for Middle School and High School students who participate in the interscholastic athletic programs, cheerleading, band, and intramural sports. In addition, students in all grades are covered during gym classes. Qualifying students are automatically provided insurance under this program when participating in supervised activities. No parent action is required for enrollment. The Middle School and High School interscholastic athletic coverage commences on the first day of practice for each sport and continues through playoff, tournament, or post-season contests.
