Hello Alburtis Families,
Our Lost & Found has officially reached legendary status. What started as a small collection has now grown into what can only be described as a pop-up department store—featuring jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, shoes, water bottles… lions and tigers and bears—oh my! 🐾
At this point, we’re considering guided tours, naming aisles, and possibly hiring a cashier. We’re fairly certain some of these items haven’t seen their owners in weeks and are starting to form new friendships.
Please take a moment to check out the attached picture and have your child swing by to reclaim any long-lost treasures. There may even be a “Hey, I forgot I owned that!” moment waiting for you.
Important: All unclaimed items will be washed and donated on the last day of the school year, so don’t let your child’s favorite hoodie or water bottle start a brand-new life somewhere else!
Thanks for helping us reunite clothing with their humans—and for preventing our Lost & Found from applying for official store status.
Warmly,
Dr. Scalzo

Hello Alburtis Families,
As you may know, social media platforms are becoming increasingly concerning for children and teens. Research continues to show a significant rise in diagnosed anxiety and depression among youth, with growing concerns around self-harm and suicide rates—especially for children under the age of 13.
Many students and parents believe that platforms like YouTube, YouTube Shorts, and YouTube Kids are safe spaces for children. However, recent legal developments suggest otherwise. YouTube was named alongside Meta (Instagram and Facebook) in a recent California social media harm case.
A central issue in this case was YouTube’s video feed design—particularly features like infinite scrolling and algorithm-driven recommendations. These elements were found to make the platform more addictive and more difficult for children and adolescents to self-regulate. The jury determined that Google/YouTube was aware of potential risks to minors and failed to provide adequate warnings, contributing to the harm outlined in the case.
This case has gained national attention, with coverage from major news outlets including BBC, Forbes, and The New York Times, highlighting what many believe is a turning point in how social media companies are held accountable for youth safety.
As a school community, we encourage families to:
*Monitor children’s social media usage closely (Note: children under 13 are generally prohibited from creating social media accounts on major platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat due to the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which requires parental consent to collect data from users under 13. While platforms typically set 13 as the minimum age, nearly 40% of children aged 8–12 still use them.
*Set clear limits and expectations around screen time
*Engage in open conversations about online safety and digital well-being
*Utilize parental controls and privacy settings
Working together, we can help ensure our students stay safe, healthy, and supported—both in and out of school.
Thank you for your continued partnership.
