2024 Mental Health Symposium

2024 EPSD Mental Health Symposium Scheduled for Parents of K-12 Students

The East Penn School District and Communities in Schools are hosting a Mental Health Symposium on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Lower Macungie Middle School. This annual event aims to provide valuable insight and education on mental health topics affecting our youth. 

The East Penn School District Mental Health Symposium is an opportunity for us to come together as a community to learn, discuss, and strategize on how best to support the well-being of all students. It will feature valuable presentations and resources aimed at raising awareness and providing support to those in need. Please see below for the presentation schedule of the upcoming symposium.

6:00 PM Resource Fair
6:45-7:00 PM- Opener
7:00-7:30 PM Session 1
7:30-8:00 PM Session 2

Each session allows for you to attend a presentation from the topics listed below:

1. Anxiety (LVHN)-This presentation will be an overview of Anxiety and how it presents in children and adolescents. Common challenges and ways parents/guardians can support their child will be explored.

2. Depression(LVHN)-This presentation will be an overview of Depression and its various presentations in children and adolescents.  Common challenges and ways parents/guardians can support their child will be explored.  Safety planning will also be discussed.

3. ADHD(LVHN)-This presentation will be an overview of ADHD (Predominantly Inattentive Type, Predominantly Hyperactive/Impulsive Type, and Combined Type).  Additionally, differentiating ADHD from Anxiety.  Ways parents/guardians can support their child will be explored.

4. Social Media and Mental Health(Center for Humanistic Change)- Join us for insights, strategies, and empowering discussions on navigating social media’s influence on mental health.

We encourage all of our families to attend the Mental Health Symposium on May 21st. Together, we can work towards a safer, healthier, and supportive school environment for all students.
