Welcome back to the 2018-2019 school year! This year promises to be an exciting year for the East Penn community. I am truly honored to serve East Penn as Superintendent and thank you for the genuine support you have extended to me as I transition to my new role. As a resident of the district and educator with 23 years of experience in East Penn, I have a deep commitment to continue to strengthen the educational opportunities we provide all students.
In East Penn, we are committed to preparing students to be successful in their post-graduation studies or work, to be engaged citizens, and to be productive contributors to their world. We continue to refine our work with high quality instructional practices and learning activities that are enhanced through equitable access to technology. Throughout the upcoming school year, we will continue with the implementation of EPSD Connects, a plan for providing students with equitable access to technology. We envision that teachers and students will utilize technology to communicate, think critically, and solve relevant problems and are committed to supporting students, teachers, and families in these shifts in teaching and learning.
In addition, East Penn is developing a Comprehensive Plan to guide the district’s work. A team of teachers, parents, and administrators have been working for several months to identify needs and develop priorities for our work in East Penn. The team identified four priority areas for our work, including District Culture, Instructional Practice, Social and Emotional Learning, and Civic Learning. The Comprehensive Plan will be finalized early this fall and will be shared with the school community.
I hope that you, as I do, see the tremendous opportunities for us to continue to grow as an educational community. You are an essential partner in your child’s success in school; we value and encourage your involvement. I am confident that through the development of a district culture that promotes collaborative relationships and continuous growth, we will flourish as a school community.
