EHS Chess Team Places at 2023 PA State Scholastic Championship

The Emmaus High School Chess Team earned a 2nd place finish at the 2023 PA State Scholastic Championships in their 7-12 U1000 Division in Harrisburg, PA.  Each player played 5 games of up to 3 hours each over a two-day period.

Placing for Emmaus were senior, Zach Ritter (4-1-0), junior, Sarvesh Senguttuvan (4-0-1), junior, Luke Dougherty (4-1-0) and freshman, Thomas Amdur (3-0-2).

Earning individual honors for Emmaus were:

Freshman- Thomas Amdur (3-0-2) 7th, 7-12 U1000
Junior- Sarvesh Senguttuvan (4-0-1) 4th, 7-12 unranked
Junior- Luke Dougherty (4-1-0) 8th, 7-12 unranked
Senior- Zach Ritter (4-1-0) 9th, 7-12 unranked
Junior- Aravind Kannan (3-1-1) 10th (tied), 7-12  unranked

Also competing for Emmaus were senior, Brian Stach (2-3-0) 7-12 open, junior, Ethan Park (3-2-0) 7-12 unranked and junior, Aidan Arakkal (2-3-0) 7-12 unranked.

A special thank you goes out to senior, Zach Ritter for facilitating all the arrangements for the team to play in this event.

The Emmaus High School Chess Team is coached by Dr. Mike Waddell and Mr. Greg Fink.  This is the team’s first return to competitive chess, following the reconstitution of the team this academic year after a more than forty year hiatus. The team finished the EPC season 7-0-2 with over 50 individual wins.
