Health and Safety Plan Update-February 28, 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Tonight, the East Penn School Board approved the following changes to our EPSD Health and Safety plan that will take effect on March 1, 2022.

Face Coverings- Effective March 1, 2022, face coverings/masks will be optional for all students and staff in buildings and on buses. Wearing a mask is a choice that will be up to our families and students. Parents who wish for their child to wear a mask at school should set that expectation at home. Our teachers and staff will support all students and reinforce that mask choice is a personal one and that mean-spirited behavior around those choices is not acceptable in our schools.

Contact Tracing- The East Penn School District will no longer be assisting the Pennsylvania Department of Health with contact tracing as of March 1, 2022.  The Department of Health will manage contact tracing moving forward. Students and Staff should stay home if they develop Symptoms of COVID-19 or test positive and notify their school nurse.  Parents and staff should continue to follow the notification process we have established with our nursing department, should a household member be diagnosed with COVID-19.

Quarantining- Individuals exposed to COVID-19 and are not exhibiting any symptoms will no longer be required to quarantine from school effective, March 1, 2022.

Exception for Unvaccinated Household Close Contacts – The household close contact is an exception due to having a continuous exposure to the virus and must quarantine according to CDC guidelines.

Keeping our schools open for instruction while maintaining the health and safety of our students and staff will remain our top priority. We ask that everyone continues to monitor for symptoms, stay home and test when you feel unwell, and isolate if you become COVID positive.

I would like to thank and recognize our students, staff, and school community for their continued support in keeping our schools a safe place to learn.

Sincerely,

Kristen Campbell, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
