Homebound Instructions

Hours and Weeks of Eligibility for Homebound Instruction:

The maximum number of hours of Homebound Instruction is defined in Board Policy #117 as a maximum of five (5) hours weekly. Homebound Instruction may not exceed 3 months. Homebound Instruction will only be provided during the course of the school calendar year. All instructional activities, to include testing, will cease on the last scheduled school day.

The Student Services Office will monitor the timelines for Homebound Instruction. If there is a need for extension of the tutoring, the Office of Student Services must apply to the State for an extension of services prior to the 90th day.

Homebound Instruction Session Time Guidelines:

The homebound instructor arranges his/her schedule to fit the needs of the student. In some instances, the student can work for only one hour a day; while in other cases, the length of instruction time can be increased so the homebound instructor visits several times a week rather than daily. This schedule is individual and must be arranged with the approval of the student’s physician. The parents shall check with the physician to determine the length of the work period.

If the parent is unable to be at home at the time of instruction, the parent shall designate to the Director of Student Services in writing a responsible adult to be in residence during the period of Homebound Instruction. If no parent or responsible adult designee can be present at the time of instruction, the session will have to be rescheduled.

In some cases, instruction can be provided at a public site (e.g., a public library).
