Emmaus High School Building

Attention EHS Families and Community

To Our EHS Families and Community,

We would like to take a moment to explain some of the decisions that have been made at EHS in order to improve the safety of our students. It is important for our school to be a welcoming environment where all of our students feel safe, valued and respected at all times. Unfortunately,
due to the variety of safety concerns, incidents and vandalism that have occurred recently in the bathrooms, we have made the decision to close three bathrooms throughout the school. We have adults posted outside the remaining bathrooms to ensure student safety. This was communicated to
students via the PA system first thing Monday morning. Teachers and staff were made aware of this change via email over the weekend.

The following bathrooms remain OPEN at all times:

  • 312 Main Office Bathrooms
  • Science Hall Bathrooms
  • Cafeteria Bathrooms
  • 3rd Floor English Bathrooms
  • World Language / Math Hall Bathrooms
  • Locker Rooms for PE classes
  • Nurse’s Office bathrooms for students in the nurse’s office

On Monday, the first day of the change, there were some inadvertent errors resulting in additional bathrooms being locked. This was well intended, but it left too many bathrooms locked particularly at the end of the day. This was corrected on Tuesday and since then, there have been no lines outside the bathrooms. There are available bathrooms on all floors of the school and in all areas.

Regarding the discipline issues occurring in the bathrooms, all students who have been identified and participating in the incidents have been dealt with through our code of conduct.

We hope that this helps you to understand the situation better. We are trying our best to address the safety concerns and maintain the best possible learning environment for our students.

Parents and community members are always welcome to attend our monthly parent meetings to discuss any concerns related to our school. The next meeting will be Monday, May 15th at 6:00 pm in
the EHS Library. All are welcome!
