Community Update – November 2022

End of Marking Period and Report Card Distribution:  The end of the first marking period is Friday, November 4th.   Report cards will be made available electronically unless previously requested through the First Day Forms. Report cards should be available approximately November 15, 2022 via PowerSchool.

Welcome to our new School Counselor:  Starting on Monday, November 14th, we are thrilled to  welcome our newest School Counselor, Ms. Laura Baranek, to EHS!  We are so excited that she has joined our team.  She will be working with students whose last names are Camacho to East.  Ms. Baranek loves sports, food, dad jokes, and she has 3 small children.  She attended West Point and was an active duty army officer for 5 years.   More recently, she spent 3 years at Souderton Area High School as a counselor.  Welcome Ms. Baranek  to EHS!

NHS Peer Tutoring Is Back!: The EHS National Honor Society is proud to announce the start of their peer tutoring program, which will officially begin on Monday, November 7, 2022. The tutoring will occur every day (except Thursday due to Hornet Huddle) during the Hornet Block in Caf 2. Each subject will be assigned a different day and will repeat weekly as follows: Monday–English and Tech Ed.; Tuesday–World Language and Social Studies; Wednesday–Math; Friday–Science. Students can fill out a form to request a tutor, but teachers and parent(s)/guardian(s) have the ability to request a tutor as well. If you would like to submit a request for your student to be tutored, please fill out the following google form, and we will promptly connect your student with a tutor to ensure they get the help they need: Parent/Guardian Tutor Request Form

Communities In Schools Student Groups:  Once again,  we are thrilled that CIS is offering support groups for students who are interested in participating.   Below are the groups being offered. If a student is in need or is interested in joining a group, they should contact their school counselor.  

Stress Management: 

Description:  Have you been feeling overwhelmed?  Are you having trouble alleviating your stressors?  This group will give you the opportunity to discuss the sources of stress in your life, gain support, and learn new, healthy methods for managing stress. 

Meetings will be held once a week (Tuesdays) for 7 weeks 1:40 pm – 2:25 pm  (Counseling Conference Room) Starting Tuesday, November 29, 2022

Wellness Group: 

Description:  This group will feature topics such as Self Confidence Building, Healthy Relationships, Motivation/Perseverance, Self-Advocacy, Decision Making, Communication, and Overcoming Obstacles.  Each week will focus on one of the topics listed above. Meetings will be held once a week (Wednesdays) for 7 weeks 8:15 am – 9:00 am (Room 330) Starting Wednesday, November 30th

Skills For Success: 

Description:  We use these skills every day and throughout our lives.  The purpose of this group is to help students develop these skills: improving focus, getting started on a task, organization, managing time, study strategies, note taking tips, and dealing with stress. Meetings will be held once a week (Wednesdays) for 7 weeks 9:15 am – 10:00 am  (Room 330) Starting Wednesday November 30th 

Let Go & Move On 

Description:  Do you sometimes struggle with feelings of anger and making positive decisions? This group will focus on increasing your ability to  manage anger effectively, identify sources of anger, calm your anger, resolve matters productively, and consider alternative solutions to a problem in order to experience more positive outcomes. Meetings will be held once a week (Wednesdays) for 7 weeks 10:15 am – 11:00 am (Room 330) Starting November 30th

Instant Decision Days: The EHS Counseling Department will be offering multiple College Instant Decision Days (IDD) at our school.  To register for an Instant Decision Day, students must have their college application submitted before the IDD AND must register through the counseling department. Should you have any questions, please contact your individual school counselor. Below are the current colleges and their Instant Decision Day schedules:

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES – Online Registration Process 

Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, November 17, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., unless other arrangements have been made with your student’s teacher.

In order to sign up to meet with your child’s teacher(s), please find the department of the teacher you’d like to meet with and click on the Sign-up genius link.   Teachers are listed alphabetically within their department.  Scroll down to find your student’s teacher and sign up for one 10 minute time slot.  The location of the conference will be listed after the teacher’s name.  The window for signing up for conferences will open on Monday, November 7th, at 9:00 AM and will close on Tuesday, November 15th, at midnight.  If you have any questions or require assistance, please feel free to contact the Emmaus High School Main Office at 610-965-1650.  Please note that the Main Office will only be able to assist those with NO internet access (verified per HAC login information on file at EHS).

Student Drop Off and Pick Up and Parking Issues:  Parents are asked to not drop  or pick up students off behind the school next to our practice field.  Parents and students are not permitted to park in this lot and can not wait there for students to exit the building.   All pick up and drop off should be at the HIVE / Locker Commons doors. No one other than staff should be parked in any numbered spots.

Parent Advisory Meeting:  The next EHS Parent Advisory Meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 21st  in the library at 6:00 pm.  This is a great opportunity for parents to learn about the happenings around the school and have the chance to discuss suggestions to make our school the best it can be!  ALL ARE WELCOME!

Angel Network Pizza Fundraiser:  Come out & enjoy some pizza! Support the EHS Angel Network by joining us at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza (Hamilton Crossings) on Wednesday, November 23rd from 11:00 AM — 9:00 PM. Anthony’s will donate 20% of their food and alcohol sales to the EHS Angel Network — you MUST mention the Angel Network to participate! You can also take your chance on several raffle items valued at $75. See you there!”

Bienvenido a nuestra nueva consejera escolar: a partir del lunes 14 de noviembre, ¡estamos encantados de dar la bienvenida a nuestra nueva consejera escolar, la Sra. Laura Baranek, a EHS! (Salón 330) a partir del miércoles 30 de noviembre

Habilidades para el éxito:

Descripción: Usamos estas habilidades todos los días ya lo largo de nuestras vidas. El propósito de este grupo es ayudar a los estudiantes a desarrollar estas habilidades: mejorar el enfoque, comenzar una tarea, organización, administrar el tiempo, estrategias de estudio, consejos para tomar notas y lidiar con el estrés. Descripción: ¿A veces lucha con sentimientos de ira y toma decisiones positivas? Este grupo se enfocará en aumentar su capacidad para manejar la ira de manera efectiva, identificar las fuentes de la ira, calmar su ira, resolver asuntos de manera productiva y considerar soluciones alternativas a un problema para experimentar resultados más positivos. Días de Decisión Instantánea: El Departamento de Consejería de EHS ofrecerá múltiples Días de Decisión Instantánea (IDD, en inglés) en nuestra escuela. Para inscribirse en un Día de Decisión Instantánea, los estudiantes deben presentar su solicitud de ingreso a la universidad ante el IDD y deben registrarse a través del departamento de consejería. CONFERENCIAS DE PADRES Y MAESTROS – Proceso de registro en línea

Las conferencias de padres y maestros están programadas para el jueves 17 de noviembre de 2022 de 6:00 p.m. a 8:00 p.m., a menos que se hayan hecho otros arreglos con el maestro de su estudiante.

Para registrarse para reunirse con los maestros de su hijo, busque el departamento del maestro con el que le gustaría reunirse y haga clic en el enlace Genio para registrarse. Los maestros se enumeran alfabéticamente dentro de su departamento. Desplácese hacia abajo para encontrar al maestro de su estudiante e inscríbase en un intervalo de tiempo de 10 minutos. El lugar de la conferencia aparecerá después del nombre del maestro. El plazo de inscripción a las conferencias se abrirá el lunes 7 de noviembre a las 9:00 horas y se cerrará el martes 15 de noviembre a las 12:00 horas. Dejar y recoger a los estudiantes y problemas de estacionamiento: Se les pide a los padres que no dejan o recogen a los estudiantes detrás de la escuela al lado de nuestro campo de práctica. Los padres y los estudiantes no pueden estacionarse en este lote y no pueden esperar allí a que los estudiantes salgan del edificio.
