Semester Exam Schedule

● Midterm exams will be administered over the course of three days.

● No Hornet Homerooms will be held on midterm exam dates.

● January 25th and January 26th are the designated midterm exam make-up days for all students.

Schedule for LCTI Students

● Academic Center and CAP students will report to LCTI per their regular schedule during the designated

midterm exam dates.

● Half-Day AM and PM LCTI will attend EHS for their designated exams and will NOT report to LCTI.

Semester Exam Attendance Guidelines

● Students are only required to be at school during the times when they are scheduled to take midterm

exams, and are welcome to arrange their own transportation to and from school.

● Teachers will be required to record a student’s absence from their testing block on this Google Form.

● DO NOT enter student attendance in PowerSchool on the midterm examination dates.

● The student’s absence from the midterm exam must be recorded on the same day of the absence, as

an automated call goes out at the end of each testing day to the families of those students who have

missed their midterm exam(s).

● In order for a student to make-up an exam, the absence must be a legally valid excuse per the EHS

Attendance Policy. Legitimate reasons for absences include the following:

○ Personal illness

○ Death or serious illness in the family

○ Observance of religious holidays of the student’s own faith

○ Educational activities pre-approved by the district and/or building administrator

○ Special circumstances such as a court summons, doctors’ appointments, or other emergencies

that the school principal or designee deems appropriate

Semester Exam Transportation and Security Guidelines

● District Transportation

○ Transportation to school during midterm exams will be provided at the regularly scheduled time

each morning. Transportation home will be provided at 1:00 p.m. on each exam day.

○ Students are welcome to arrange their own transportation to and from school during midterm

exams. Students who are unable to arrange their own transportation will be required to attend

study hall in Cafe. 1 and Cafe. 2

● Exam Sessions, Designated Study Hall Locations and Lunch

○ Prior to the start of each testing session, students may enter the building ONLY through the

following entrances:

■ The Main Office

■ Auditorium Lobby

■ HIVE (Former Locker Commons)

○ The entrances above will remain open only for the first ten minutes of each testing session.

Once the designated entrances are locked, students are to enter through the Main Office, be

escorted to the cafeteria, and remain in the cafeteria until the conclusion of the testing

sessions. All other entrances to EHS will be locked.

○ Students are not allowed to roam the building during each testing session, and are to remain in

their testing locations, the cafeteria, or the library until the conclusion of the testing session.

○ We will have available hall monitors and staff assistants in place to escort students during the

testing sessions. During the time between testing sessions, students can travel around the

building until the start of the next testing session.

○ Lunch will be available for purchase in the cafeteria each day between 10:45 a.m. and 11:20

a.m.

○ Study halls will be provided in the cafeteria for students who have free time between exams or

for those who are unable to arrange transportation during testing sessions.

○ The EHS Library will be open and available to students as a quiet study location during each

testing session.

Late Bus

There will be no late bus on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 due to Midterms.

Chromebook / IT Help

The IT department  will hold  Chromebook support for students from 10:45 – 11:20am  only outside the library entrance on January 22, 23 and 24th  due to Midterms.

Parking

There have been issues with faculty/student parking, please make sure to park in your assigned numbered spot. If there is another car parked in your spot, please take a picture of the license plate.   Send the picture to Gina Jones at gjones@eastpennsd.org then park your car in the parallel spots next to the sidewalk in Lot J by the Auditorium.

Communities In Schools

Future Educators Program – LCTI

There will be an information session for any current 11th grade students interested in learning more about the 2024/25 Future Educators program offered through LCTI on February 7th at 12:00. If you are interested in attending, please sign up in the counseling office.

Future Educators is a program of study for students interested in building professional pathways for future careers as pre-K-12 teachers, school counselors, paraprofessionals, school administrators…Students are dually enrolled at both LCTI and LCCC, where they take on-site classes such as EDU 114- Careers in Education, EDU 101- Foundations of Education, and EDU 105- Introduction to Special Education. In the classroom setting at LCTI, students work on building a foundation of understanding of different roles in education, the history of American education, stages of human development, understanding diverse learners, planning and instructional methods, as well as tools for classroom management and technology for instruction. In addition, students gain hands-on experience by spending time in PreK-12 classrooms within the Lehigh Valley school districts, and initiate planning for the future by visiting and learning about local colleges and universities, and spending time with LCTI alumni.

Chipotle Fundraiser for Unified Track and Field

   The Unified Track and Field team’s first fundraiser is at Chipotle next week, January 24th from 5-9pm.  Our Unified Track and Field team is a team comprised of students of all abilities who compete in track and field events during the Spring season. You need to show the flyer, or a picture of it on your phone, or you can use the Promo Code (DAA7HA8) if you order online.  Copies of the fundraiser flyer are located in the Main Office to show  at Chipotle if placing your order in person.  Thank you for your help and support.

Pop Up Thrift Store

A Pop-Up Thrift Shop is coming to Emmaus! The Emmaus Thrift Shop we be held January 24th and 25th after school until 4:30 in the auditorium elevator lobby. All profits will be donated to environmental charities! Happy thrifting!

Emmaus Rotary Club’s  Speech Contest

Create hope in the world – participate in Emmaus Rotary Club’s 4 Way Test Speech Contest! The contest will be held on March 16, 10 AM, at Willow Lane Elementary School and is open to ALL students. ALL participants receive a monetary prize!

Write and deliver a brief speech focusing on Rotary’s Four Way Test of the things we think, say, or do (Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned?

 FAFSA – Help Completing form

The EHS Counseling Office is proud to offer families of 12th grade students the opportunity to complete their FAFSA with the support of Michael Burke from PHEAA and a representative from LCCC’s Financial Aid Office.  The event will take place in the EHS Library on 2/7/24 at 6:00pm.  Anyone who is interested in participating will need to complete this Google Form as space is limited.  Families will need to bring copies of their 2022 1040/1040EZ/1040A etc. as well as their W2 forms, social security numbers.  Students have the option to bring their EPSD device or devices will be provided for families (personal devices are discouraged). The FSA ID should be completed BEFORE attending the FAFSA Completion Night (start here).  Should you have any questions, please contact your student’s counselor

School Store

The School Store will be open during Hornet Homeroom everyday (10:18 – 10:55).  Students that come, need to have a signed pass from the homeroom teacher.

Clubs

  • The next meeting for the Classical Dance Club will be on 1/31 after school in Café 2 from 2:30-3:30.  Wear athletic attire and come ready to explore different dance styles.  Don’t forget your dance shoes!  Join the Schoology Group using code 8FM2-RHSC-9H7QQ.  
  • The Young Republicans Club will meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month. Our next meeting is Wednesday, January 24th from 2:30-3:30 PM in room 310. All are welcome! For more information, please see Mrs. Smeltz in room 319, or join our Schoology group (access code V7KF-3XNJ-J65F7).
  • The Bible Study Club will be meeting Tuesdays from 6:45 – 7:15am in Room 254. Come spend some time with us learning scripture and fellowshipping with other students!   • The Interact Club will continue to collect soda tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.   Please drop off at Mrs. Kaunitz’s room, 216.
