The EHS Theater Department presents… Romeo & Juliet

Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for students and senior citizens, and can be reserved online through the EHS website beginning October 13. Tickets will also be sold at the door if available. Senior citizen gold card holders may present gold cards in the EHS main office or at the door to receive a complimentary ticket to any performance.

Of all Shakespeare’s plays, Romeo & Juliet has been the most continuously popular since its first performance in the mid-1590’s. Shakespeare’s quintessential story of young love in a world of violence and generational conflict is timeless in its relevance to the emotional and social concerns of young people. The most direct of Shakespeare’s plays in its emotional impact, Romeo & Juliet tells the story of two adolescents finding in their sudden love for each other a reason to defy their families’ mutual hatred by marrying secretly. The tragic outcome of their love results from Tybalt’s hotheaded refusal to obey the Prince’s command and from accidents of timing beyond any human ability to foresee or control. Simple in its storyline and clear in its affirmation of the power of love, Romeo & Juliet provides both a timeless theme and universal appeal. Though we pity the tragic fate of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers, we admire their courage in the face of adversity and their unwavering belief in love.
