ACADEMIC TEAM (SCHOLASTIC SCRIMMAGE)

The Academic Team members are selected on the basis of a comprehensive test which includes questions on Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, English, and Fine Arts. Practice sessions and other meetings are held after school and members should plan on attending four sessions each month. Four members will represent the school on Channel 39’s televised Scholastic Scrimmage program. All members will participate in the Academic Hallmarks Knowledge Master Fall & Spring Opens and other academic competitions.

ACTIVISM CLUB

The EHS Activism Club was created to promote activism within the community, advocate for a safe environment, and provide opportunities for social and political engagement. Events have included Voter Registration drive, co-hosting Candidate debate 2018, and organizing the 2018 and 2019 EHS Day of Activism. All are welcome!

AMERICAN RED CROSS CLUB

The American Red Cross club was formed to provide students of Emmaus High School with training in various areas of emergency response. The club is an opportunity given by the American Red Cross to educate students who will further aid the community through volunteer work. Throughout the year the Red Cross Club will engage in fundraising to generate money for their community volunteer work and educational programs.

ASTRONOMY CLUB

The EHS Astronomy Club was founded for students interested in observing and learning about the night sky. The club will sponsor such activities as member star parties, public star parties, planetarium programs for public and group observatory visits.

BAND CLUB

BIBLE STUDY CLUB

The purpose of the Bible Study Club is to allow students to learn more about the Bible, learn how to live a Christ-centered life and to fellowship with other students. Meetings are Tuesday mornings from 6:45-7:15am and many times, lessons and scripture is taught by local pastors in the surrounding Lehigh Valley area! Time for prayer requests and biblical discussions are also intertwined into the Bible study time.

The sole purpose of the Black Student Union is to provide a safe space for black students, along with other BIPOC individuals, at EHS to be unapologetically themselves. This club also prioritizes bringing awareness to ongoing dilemmas within BIPOC communities, along with highlighting amazing accolades achieved by BIPOC that go unrecognized by the mainstream media.

COLLAGE

Collage is the “artistic voice” of the high school campus. The staff invites students to submit poetry, photography, short stories, sketches–as well as computer graphics, music, etc. The magazine appears once during the academic year. If you enjoy art, consider joining the staff for their weekly meetings in room 575 on Tuesdays between 2:40-3:40.

CROCHET CLUB

The Crochet Club is open to all EHS students interested in exploring fiber arts. It is a great way to connect with other creative minds and crocheting also provides a way for students to relieve stress. It can also be a way to give back to the community through donations of clothing made in the club. The goal of the crochet club is to help students connect and to improve school spirit.

DANCE TEAM

The EHS Dance team is a performing group for dancers. The organization performs at basketball games, pep rallies and other school functions in order to promote school spirit. A dance production is performed at the end of the year. Due to the number of participants, the team consists of a varsity and a junior varsity squad. Squads for the upcoming year are formed at an audition held in May. Strong technique and current dance experience is required. The Dance Team promotes teamwork, camaraderie and self-confidence and those interested in promoting school spirit should contact Ms. Becker.

DEBATE TEAM

The Debate Team is part of the EPC and competes with local teams involving a set topic based on current controversial issues relating to today’s youth. Students conduct research and formal debates that enhance social and speaking skills.

EARTHWATCH CLUB

Members of this club become involved in many types of activities to help maintain our local environment and help preserve the earth’s resources. Field activities include monitoring the Little Lehigh Creek once each week for aquatic organisms and chemicals. The club is also involved in stream bank stabilization projects in cooperation with the Wildlands Conservancy.

ECONOMICS & INVESTMENT CLUB

Through the Economics and Investment Club, students will be able to delve into the basics of economics, investment, money management, and other financial topics. Members also participate in a portfolio management simulation and competition. Throughout the year, the club will reach out to various financial experts in the community for guest speeches and discussions.

The objective of Envirothon is to examine environmental issues pertaining to the school and local community, to volunteer time and manpower to improve the condition of the school and local environment, to study topics in preparation for the local and state Envirothon competition with the ultimate goal of developing a knowledgeable, skilled and dedicated citizens who have an understanding of natural resources and are willing and prepared to work towards achieving and maintaining a balance between the quality of life and the quality of the environment.

E SPORTS CLUB

The Emmaus Esports team was established to allow all students a fair and equal opportunity to participate in competitive Esports gaming tournaments as a member of a school team. Club members will both free play with existing or new club members and compete for Emmaus against other Esports school teams in the area.

The Emmaus Fitness Team has a long history of having fun while working hard to improve each individual’s fitness. We are open to boys and girls and we focus on crunches, push ups, long jumps, pull ups, and a shuttle run as these are the events in the several competitions we attend. The season concludes with the top team members competing at the national championship, frequently held in San Diego, CA, which we are proud to say Emmaus Boys and Girls have won numerous times. Anyone can join and everyone who puts in the effort sees personal improvement and finds new friends.

FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA (FBLA)

FBLA’s main goal is to provide career preparation opportunities through conferences, networking with business professionals, and business tours. It is also designed to enhance leadership, communication, and business skills. Students will be eligible to compete in more than 40 different competitive events with other students locally and nationally. Students will also have the chance to win trophies, plaques, cash awards, scholarships, and internships.

The Hydroponics Club was created for students who are interested in the following activities: learning the fundamental principles of hydroponics, applying their knowledge of hydroponics to the design of new hydroponic systems and to the maintenance of the club’s hydroponics systems, planning, organizing, an implementing fundraisers to sell the harvest from the hydroponics systems within the district and possibly outside of the district, developing a business model to determine how to maintain a profitable hydroponic agriculture system, sharing their knowledge and interest in hydroponics with other students who are interested in the topic.

INTERACT CLUB

The Interact Club is a service organization that works closely with the Rotary Club of Emmaus. The club’s main objective is to serve the school district, local community, nation and world through projects. These projects and activities aim to develop the qualities of leadership, selflessness and responsibility in the club’s members. Members must complete at least one service project outside of the school day per marking period and are required to attend regular meetings 1-2 times per month on Thursday’s from 2:35-3:15pm. The club also provides opportunity to hold the position of an officer, attend a summer leadership camp, study abroad, earn a scholarship, compete in a speech contest, and boast membership to a highly regarded and recognized organization, especially on job and college applications.

The Meteorology Club was founded for students who are interested in observing, forecasting, and learning more about weather and climate related phenomena. The clubs primary focus is to gain knowledge about forecasting meteorological events and to better understand how global climate patterns impact local weather. Weather forecasts that are created by the club’s members will be provided to the ETV crew for use on the daily morning announcements. The club will meet a minimum of twice per month to discuss upcoming weather patterns for the Lehigh Valley and the Greater Philadelphia Area. During the fall and winter seasons the club holds additional meetings to forecast upcoming inclement weather events.

NATIONAL PARKS CLUB

The National Parks Club is composed of a select group of students based on academic excellence, character and interest in national parks. The primary focus is to gain knowledge about geographical features and wildlife at various parks throughout the country. Meetings will be held twice a month after school and field trips will be held so that students can learn more about becoming Junior Rangers or setting up future internships, but also includes extensive physical activity, data collection and observations. Both attendance at the meetings and participation with fundraisers are requirements.

Students Against Sexism in Schools is a rewarding and constructive organization dedicated to embracing the unity of femininity and masculinity within our district through the limitless education of historical beauty standards, the scientific and societal approaches of gender definition, and the understanding of unconscious bias.  Through peer to peer discussion and the practice of initiative, students will break the barriers of the mind and increase their self awareness while exploring the concept of activism in a liberating and progressive community.  The moral values of this student organization are constructed with the priorities of kinship, creativity, and innovation.

SUMMER TRACK CLUB

Summer Track Club is a club for students who have experience in track and field, and would like to continue training and competing during the summer months. Students will meet at the EHS Track & Stadium 1 to 2 days a week during permitted and supervised times by the EPSD Track & Field Coaching staff. Boys and girls in incoming grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 are welcome to attend. All students will provide their own transportation and pay their own entry fees when applicable.

The Theater Department aims to increase the visibility of the dramatic arts, gather together theatre lovers for study and discussion of plays, support all theatrical productions at EHS, provide opportunities for student attendance at theatre to teach the art of improvisation, and to provide as many performance opportunities as possible for EHS students.

THINK PINK CLUB

The Think Pink campaign started in 1996 with the purpose of promoting Breast Cancer Awareness. The universal pink ribbon represents prevention, early detection, and treatment – supporting the mission to spread awareness and education. The goal of Think Pink is to raise awareness of breast cancer at EHS but also in our community. To reach this goal we will be holding events and themes at sports games. We are planning to have a table at the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament for basketball December 27th & 28th, an event in May hopefully with EHS Track & Field, and next school year in October work with Making Strides for Lehigh Valley and the pink out football game. Meetings will be held during Hornet Homeroom on Wednesdays biweekly. During those meetings we will discuss what we would like to do for events, games, and fundraisers.

UNITED TRACK

Unified Track and Field joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. Our athletes train together and compete together which helps them to develop friendships and an understanding of one another. Students select one track event and one field event in which to train and compete and also might be selected to one relay team. In meets, they are placed in heats with other competitors who have similar qualifying times or distances. Every heat is scored, with 1st place earning 5 points, 2nd place earning 3 points, and 3rd place earning 1 point for their school’s Unified team. The high school with the most cumulative points wins the meet.
o Track Events include: 100 meters, 400 meters, and 800 meters; 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays
o Field Events include: Shot put, running long jump, mini javelin
– Season Length: The season begins with the team having its first practices during the beginning of March
(the start of the PIAA spring sports season). Practices and competitions run through May, depending on the date of the culminating regional championship event.

WINTER TRACK CLUB

The purpose of the winter Track Club is to provide a vehicle for athletes not involved in a winter sport the opportunity to condition and train, with the possibility of competing in a few indoor track meets. We will train both outdoors and in the weight room during the months of November, December, January and February, as permitted by weather. We will meet at 2:45 p.m. in the Sports Center Lobby and will do whatever is possible each day. Boys and girls in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 are welcome to attend. All participants will provide their own transportation and pay their own entry fees when applicable.

Founded by a group of outward-looking students, the club focuses on learning about various cultures of the world in a hands-on, student-directed manner. Honor Societies

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. NHS recognizes students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher; however, NHS candidates must also exhibit qualities beyond a grade point average. NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. NHS candidates will receive an invitation to apply and complete a rigorous application process. The faculty council considers every application carefully before issuing invitations to join. Once a member of NHS, all students are expected to maintain high academic standards, exhibit appropriate character, and complete service hours to remain a member in good standing.

NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY

For more than 40 years, the National Art Honor Society programs have provided national recognition and opportunities for students who exhibit outstanding scholarship in the visual arts as well as exceptional leadership skills and service. National Art Honor Society is a service group, which requires members to attend meetings, special events, and complete art-related service hours. If you are interested in joining our chapter speak to your current art teacher at the end of the semester to learn the requirements to apply.

TRI-M MUSIC HONOR SOCIETY

The objective of this club is to encourage participation in school music ensembles, to develop leadership and to promote and support the high school music department.
