The East Penn Facilities Department continues to make significant progress on capital improvements and operating expense projects across the district, with numerous initiatives completed or on track for completion by September 30, 2026. These investments reflect the district’s ongoing commitment to maintaining safe, efficient, and modern learning environments.
Major capital improvement projects include the comprehensive energy savings project at Jefferson Elementary, featuring upgrades to lighting, HVAC systems, clocks, the public address system, and ceiling tiles. Additional infrastructure improvements include the replacement of rooftop air handling units serving the Emmaus High School Library, second-floor science classrooms, and the Administration Building Board and Conference Rooms. The district also replaced the UV water treatment equipment in the Emmaus High School natatorium, improving the efficiency and reliability of the pool’s water treatment system.
Through operating expense funding, the district completed a wide range of projects focused on safety, security, maintenance, and facility enhancements. Safety improvements included the creation of designated safe spaces in multiple Willow Lane Elementary classrooms, installation of security bollards at Emmaus High School, Eyer Middle School, and Lower Macungie Middle School through PCCD grant funding, security upgrades at the Administration Building, enhanced card access at Willow Lane Elementary, removal of a brick dumpster enclosure in the EHS courtyard, and repairs to the Alburtis Elementary roof and kindergarten canopy.
The district also invested in improvements that enhance daily operations and extend the life of its facilities. These projects included replacing Family and Consumer Sciences classroom countertops and ranges at Emmaus High School, rebuilding the retaining wall near the EHS Door 6 entrance, replacing flooring in the Willow Lane Elementary main office, and addressing landscape concerns that posed safety risks or caused damage to personal vehicles.
Energy efficiency remains a priority, with the replacement of outdated lighting fixtures with LED technology in the Emmaus High School cafeteria, Willow Lane Elementary main office, EHS parking lots, Eyer Middle School parking lots, and the Eyer library. In addition, comprehensive electrical analysis and thermographic testing of major electrical equipment at Emmaus High School, Eyer Middle School, and Lower Macungie Middle School were completed to support preventative maintenance efforts and ensure the continued reliability of critical building systems.
Collectively, these projects demonstrate the district’s proactive approach to maintaining high-quality facilities, strengthening campus safety and security, improving operational efficiency, and providing students and staff with safe, functional, and welcoming learning environments.
