Eyer Middle School families had an opportunity to explore digital wellness and healthy technology habits during a special presentation from JOSHWAY at Eyer’s Meet the Teacher Night and Community Resource Fair.
The Easton-based nonprofit presented The Digital Diet™, a digital wellness program designed to help families take a more intentional approach to technology. Rather than focusing on eliminating devices, the program encourages students and adults to consider how, when, and why they use technology, and how they can create a healthier balance in their daily lives.
Throughout the presentation, families were encouraged to think about the role technology plays in areas such as sleep, relationships, focus, creativity, learning, and mental well-being. The discussion also explored artificial intelligence and the importance of ensuring technology supports learning and creativity rather than replacing independent thinking.
Parents received practical strategies they can begin using at home, including creating tech-free spaces and times, limiting unnecessary notifications, taking intentional technology breaks, and establishing family expectations around device use. One of the central messages of the presentation was that healthy digital habits are about balance, not elimination.
The presentation also introduced families to JOSHWAY’s 5 M’s of Digital Wellness: Model, Mentor, Monitor, Mastery, and Meaning, encouraging adults to model healthy technology habits while helping young people develop the skills to make thoughtful choices for themselves.
JOSHWAY works with schools and community organizations to help young people build digital literacy, life skills, confidence, and healthy relationships with technology.
Thank you to JOSHWAY for joining the Eyer community and providing our families with practical tools and meaningful conversations to help students navigate an increasingly digital world.
