In the event that the East Penn School District needs to utilize a Remote Learning Day, formerly known as a Flexible Instruction Day (FID), we want to ensure families are familiar with our procedures and expectations for students.
Families are encouraged to review the information below now so they are prepared should a Remote Learning Day be necessary during the school year.

Secondary Students (Grades 6–12)
Because secondary students continue to have access to their Chromebooks at home, Remote Learning Day expectations remain consistent with previous years. Additional information and reminders will be shared as we approach the winter months.
Elementary Students (Grades K–5)
Because elementary students do not have access to their District-issued iPads at home, students will receive Remote Day Learning Activities to complete during Remote Learning Days.
These materials will be sent home with students in a Remote Learning Activity Folder on October 5 and are designed to keep students actively engaged and learning from home.
What to Expect
Remote Day Academic Activities: Each Remote Day bundle includes the materials and instructions students will need to complete their work from home.
Students who receive modifications or accommodations according to their IEP will receive the appropriate materials to support their individualized learning during the remote day.
Specialist Choice Boards: On Remote Learning Days, elementary families should log into Seesaw to determine which Specialist Choice Board: Art, Music, PE, or STEM, their child should complete. The assigned Specialist Choice Board will also be available in the student’s envelope.
Distribution Timeline
To ensure families and students are prepared well in advance, materials will be sent home in two phases:
- Remote Learning Activities Days 1 & 2: Materials will be sent home on October 5, after teachers preview the materials and routines with students in class. Remote Day envelopes should remain in students’ backpacks for safekeeping.
- Remote Learning Activities Days 3, 4 & 5: Materials will be prepared and placed in folders as needed.
When a Remote Learning Day Occurs
- Check Seesaw for announcements and to confirm the day’s Specialist Choice Board. If your child needs support, their teacher will be available through Google Meet, Seesaw messages, and/or email.
- Complete the designated numbered packet for that specific Remote Learning Day.
- Keep completed work in the designated envelope and return it to school when in-person classes resume.
- Student attendance will be determined by completion of the independent learning activities and submission of the work to the teacher upon returning to school. If a student is sick, there will be a three-day grace period.

We encourage families to become familiar with these procedures and keep elementary Remote Learning Activity Folders in a safe, accessible place once they are sent home.
