EHS German teachers would like to congratulate the following students on their performance on the 2023 National German Exam.

  • Jeremy Lam, Silver; Sarah Greene, Bronze; Elias Gopen and Christian Tucker, Achievement – gr. 11
  • Diego Chavolla Ramirez and Jillian Currie, Silver; Hailey Snyder, Achievement – gr. 9

The annual National German Exams are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG). Over 15,500  students participated nationally in the exam this year. The National German Exam, now in its 62nd year, challenges students to test their developing language skills, provides a means of comparing students in all regions of the U.S., and recognizes students nationally as well as through potential exchange trip awards for top performers.

Priscilla Layne, professor of German at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and AATG President said, “The outstanding performance of these German students in our national competition reflects highly on their school, their district, and their German program. The AATG congratulates these students for their tremendous accomplishment and acknowledges the great work their teachers do.”

Founded in 1926, the AATG represents German teachers at all levels of instruction. The AATG is dedicated to the advancement and improvement of the teaching of language, literature, and culture of the German‐speaking countries.

Our gratitude and thanks to East Penn School District for continuing to offer German from 8th through 12th grades, as German continues to be a globally recognized critical language.
